Nottawa Music Program

It is now the end of September and  the music program is up and running. I am really enjoying Nottawa’s talented music students.  The students are having fun and learning a great deal about music through singing, dancing, and playing many different instruments. Below is a brief description about what is going on right now in the different grades.

Grades 1-2 are singing, dancing, and using rhythm instruments to develop an understanding of beat, rhythm, tempo,  and dynamics (loud and soft).

Grade 3-4 are playing recorders and have started to look at the notes B, A, and G.  We are learning the fingering and how to recognize the notes and their value on the treble clef.

Grades 5-6 are playing the Ukulele. We have learned  chords C, G, Am, F, as well as C scale and note names on the fretboard.

Grade 7-8 have chosen and received their instruments and band has started and practices will be Tuesdays and Thursday mornings at 8:00 a.m..  Grade 7’s are learning how to hold their instruments and how to make a sound.  While grade 8’s will continue on where we left off last year, after a brief review.

Learning an instrument is hard work. It takes time, patience, and perseverance.  Some students will pick up an instrument and learn faster, while others may get frustrated easier.   If students try their best they will experience success.  I am available most days if students need help at recess.
